Google Fiber Bypasses Duluth, Minnesota In Favor Of Kansas City, Kansas

E-mail Print PDF

There's been a group here that has put forth an impressive effort to attract Google's ultra high-speed fiber optic project to Duluth. It's brought portions of the Duluth community together like nothing else I've seen in the 17 years I've lived here.

Google's decision today to choose Kansas City, Kansas as its test-bed city for the project will be a difficult pill for some in Duluth to swallow. Although Google has not yet commented on why Duluth was not chosen, some may point to a few of the possible barriers standing in Duluth's way, such as being located on a steep hill and having such rough winters — potential obstacles to an easy physically placement of the fiber optic cabling the project would require.

I have supported the movement to attract this potentially exciting Google project, and am disappointed that it has not come to pass. Duluth luckily has many other exciting projects in the works to continue making the community a unique northern Minnesota destination.

Exegesis & History

Truth is a pathless land. Man cannot come to it through any organization, through any creed, through any dogma, priest or ritual, not through any philosophical knowledge or psychological technique. He has to find it through the mirror of relationship, through the understanding of the contents of his own mind, through observation and not through intellectual analysis or introspective dissection.
